Activities on the Gili Islands
Diving is the main activity on the Gili Islands, with Gili
Trawangan being the main diving destination. However there are also a
variety of other activites available on and around the Gilis.
Snorkelling
For
those of you that don't fancy diving but still want to enjoy the
crystal clear water and have a chance of swimming with turtles, there
are daily snorkelling trips that visit all three Gilis. There is also
plenty of great marine life to be found just off the beach. Turtles,
moray eels and cuttlefish are a few of the creatures to be seen just
20meters from the shore. Not everywhere is good for snorkelling as there
can be strong tidal currents so make sure you check with us or another
dive shop before going out.
Golf
The
Lombok Golf Kosaido Country Club is an 18 hole championship course that
offers a unique, challenging and world class experience for golfers of
all levels. The course is located a 10 minute speed boat journey from
Gili Trawangan, arriving on the beach at the 4th hole. We arrange one
day and half day packages including transport, 18 holes green fee, club
rental, buggy, caddy, lunch and drinks. We offer the most competetive
rates and are always looking for some fresh competition. When you're
here speak to Marcus or Antony as they're always keen to play.
Wakeboarding and water skiing:
In
order to preserve the peaceful enviromnent of the Gilis these types of
watersports are only permitted in a small bay in Lombok. There are
numerous companies offering a variety of water sports that can all be
booked at short notice, you would however be advised to look around for
the best rates.
Flyboarding
Just
arrived in Gili Trawangan. Take to the water like a dolphin, lauching
yourself into the air, and diving down under the water. Or just hover
above the waters surface.
For enquiries and bookings just ask at Manta dive and we'll point you in the right direction.
Gili Cooking Classes
Classes offer a unique opportunity to learn the secret of six tasty
and delicious Indonesian dishes and Lombok specialities throughout a 3
hours course. Lots of fun and you get a great meal at the end of it.
Located in the art market on Gili Trawangan.
Surfing
All
3 Gilis have surf, the South East corner of Trawangan and Gili Air are
the main areas but both are very much dependant on the swell. When it's
good it's really good however it isn't consistent. If you want
consistent waves locally go to South Lombok. It's also not for beginners
as it's all reef breaks.
Sea kayaking
On the north end of Gili Trawangan there is a new restaurant and accommodation called Karma Kayak.
Run by Grace and Astrid it's a relaxing and peaceful part of the island
where you can chill out and sample some of their great 'Tapas'. Astrid
is also a Kayaking instructor and offers courses and tours around the
Gilis. For more information contact them by email.
Horse Riding
For
the slightly more adventurous horses can be hired and the island is
yours to explore. Experience on horses is recomended as they can be
rather feisty.
Freediving Courses
A Freediving training center has recently opened just down the road
from Manta Dive. We work closely with Mike Board, who is an exceptional
instructor and British freedive record holder. Mike has recently trained
some of our staff who are now qualified to provide beginner and
intermediate lessons, and for more advanced levels we highly reccommend
paying Mike a visit.
Yoga
Gili
Yoga center is located close to the harbour on Gili Trawangan. The
centre shares an office with Freedive Gili and boasts its very own Yoga
pavillion.
Gili Yoga offers a wide variety of daily yoga classes for all levels and experience. Run by expert Kate Middleton and staffed by professional, passionate and dedicated yogis who love to share their lifestyle with all. Sessions are practiced in the warm open air, surrounded by a tropical garden and the sounds of nature.
